Takalik Maya Lodge

Communal Tourism leaves the people of the community with something as well as allows the tourists to take something away: a sincere friendship, an authentic legacy of humanity and equity. At Takalik Maya Lodge, 100% of the services in the hotel and of the restaurant are presented by the active members in the Communal Development Counsel (COCODE), the people of the community. Takalik Maya Lodge belongs to the Network of Sustainable Tourism of Guatemala; this Non Governmental Organization of a non-lucrative nature. The local communities comprise this NGO totally or at least partially.

In relation to the community, tourism has signified the development and strengthening of the capacities and the professionalism of the local artesanias. For this reason, to visit us you contribute not only to the conservation of the natural resources and cultures that are so important to the region, but to the development of these families. One way for a visitor to help would by supporting the local village school, which has a student population of approximately 25 children at the elementary level.

The objective of the network is to generate additional income to the hosting communities through sustainable and eco tourism projects.

Communal tourism allows the community to generate additional income, while, at the same time, sharing with the tourists the pure cultural traits, languages (there are more than 20), histories, and beliefs of the region.
